The four Cottage Living communities were originally designed, built and operated by a local Green Bay couple. They were some of the first communities to obtain state licensure and operate as assisted living communities in the state of Wisconsin. All four were known for their care and compassion and were well respected by the communities they served.

With a changing senior living climate and new and innovative products emerging in the market, the communities began to fall behind. In 2007, the original owners decided to retire and sold the properties to an Illinois group led by a gentleman, Jeffrey Davis, whose father, prior to death, suffered from dementia.

Mr. Davis brought a fresh new approach to senior living and, with the assistance of BAKA Enterprises, Inc., a locally owned and operated senior living management company officed in Appleton, WI, renovated and refined the communities. Several innovative ideas for senior living were implemented at each property and extensive renovation took place.

In 2009, the communities received the highest mark of achievement when Marla Vista Manor and Marla Vista Gardens received deficiency-free state surveys. This milestone showcased the hard work and commitment of the new owners, the management company and the wonderful care teams working in each community.
