Private Funds:
Private funds may come from pensions including social security, checking accounts, savings accounts, certificates of deposit (CD's), investments, sale of a home or property, etc.
Veterans Benefits:
VA benefits covering assisted living are usually referred to as "Aid & Attendance" benefits. The Aid and Attendance pension benefit may be available to wartime veterans and surviving spouses who have in-home care or who live in nursing-homes or assisted-living facilities. For a wartime veteran or surviving spouse to qualify for this special monthly pension, the veteran must have served at least 90 days of active military service, one day of which was during a period of war, and be discharged under honorable conditions.
Additional information and assistance in applying for the Aid and Attendance benefit may be obtained by calling 1-800-827-1000. Online applications and information are also available on the Internet at www.va.gov or from any local VA office.
Family Care Funding:
To apply for Family Care assistance, you must first visit or phone an Aging & Disability Resource Center near you.
Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs) are the first place to go with your aging and disability questions. ADRCs are service centers that provide a place for the public to get accurate, unbiased information on all aspects of life related to aging or living with a disability.
These centers are free to the public and anyone can contact them (family member or friend) to receive information and assistance regarding not only the public benefits that may be available, but all of the programs and service available throughout the local area.
